Kyoto - A routine complaint about a strange smell coming from a run-down warehouse led to a grisly discovery yesterday: eighteen bodies, each identically dressed, each with a slit throat and a blood knife in hand. "The worst thing I've ever seen," said Detective Ten Saitou, shaking his head. The bodies are as yet unidentified, and police have concluded that the victims have been for at least three weeks. Poison also has been detected in most of the bodies, with laboratory tests continuing around the clock.
Police have indicated that the most likely scenario is a cult mass suicide, as the warehouse contains both a dojo and a library, and strange symbols adorn the walls, but further investigation is necessary before definite conclusions can be drawn. Det. Saito stated, "There are some clues that don't line up. And we will be proceeding very slowly, very deliberately to determine the true nature of these deaths."
