Located in the Horn of Africa, around modern-day Ethiopia and Eritrea , the Aksumites were a powerful empire that controlled the trading routes across the Red Sea, rising to prominence through their ability to maximize trade between Rome, Egypt, India and the other major powers of the ancient world. Though located in a region beset by conflict, the Aksumites were renowned for their ability to neutrally trade with everyone and for their resistance to being drawn into war. Peace, spirituality and negotiation were their hallmarks.
That’s not to say the Aksumites were pacifists – when roused to war, they were some of the most deadly fighters the world has ever seen. But they looked at war as the last resort, and would look for every alternative way of resolving disputes before resorting to bloodshed. But once the Aksumites decided to take arms, they would not stop until their opponents would beg for mercy.
But the same patience that gave the Aksumite’s their strength also led to their downfall at the hands of history’s greatest corruptors - The Roman Empire. Even though some Aksumite leaders attempted to set up new versions of their homeland in other locations, eventually the Roman corruption defeated them all.
According to legend, one of the earliest Aksumite kings took possession of the Ark of the Covenant, and the relic continues to be guarded even to this day by a sworn order of holy defenders. But the few people who think they know the Ark’s location have been fooled – because that Ark is a fake . The True Ark is hidden somewhere else, somewhere where the greatest Truths of Askum are still kept secret.
